Doha, Qatar: Qatar has officially joined the Global Alliance for Food Safety for the 2025 to 2027 period. This alliance unites leading countries in food safety and World Health Organization (WHO) collaborating centres to boost coordination, knowledge exchange, and efforts in implementing the Global Strategy for Food Safety 2022-2030.
The network is dedicated to monitoring food-borne diseases and detecting food contamination. The announcement of Qatar's accession was made during the Ministry of Public Health's participation in the Alliance's annual meeting, recently held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.
The meeting gathered representatives from over 40 countries and around 90 participants from regional and international organizations working with the WHO, alongside national institutions, research centres, and academic bodies. It provided a crucial international platform to review achievements, share experiences, and outline future priorities, including cooperation opportunities and resource mobilization to support national and regional programs.
Additionally, it was announced that specialists from Qatar's Food Safety Department would join four working groups to support the alliance's programs and enhance expertise exchange among member states.
