The sons of Pakistan's imprisoned former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, are expressing grave concerns that authorities may be hiding "something irreversible" about his condition. This anxiety arises after more than three weeks without any evidence confirming that he is still alive, as stated by one of his sons. Despite a court order for weekly meetings, prison visits remain blocked, and rumors about potential prison transfers continue to circulate.
Kasim Khan, one of Imran Khan's sons, told Reuters that the family has been unable to establish direct or verifiable contact with him. "Not knowing whether your father is safe, injured or even alive is a form of psychological torture," he shared in written remarks, noting there had been no independently confirmed communication for a couple of months.
"Our greatest fear is that something irreversible is being hidden from us," he added. The family has consistently requested access for Khan's personal physician, who has been denied permission to examine him for over a year.
Pakistan's interior ministry did not respond to requests for comment. However, a jail official, speaking anonymously, assured Reuters that Khan was in good health and that there was no knowledge of any plans to transfer him to a higher-security facility.
