The
United States would lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports and issue limited
sanctions waivers allowing Iran to sell oil more freely under the proposed
agreement currently being negotiated between Washington and Tehran, according
to an Axios report citing sources familiar with the talks.
The
draft deal, which has been mediated by Pakistan, is part of ongoing efforts to
end the conflict that erupted in late February following US-Israeli strikes on
Iran. The blockade on Iranian ports has severely restricted Iran's ability to
export oil, a critical source of revenue for the country. Under the proposed
terms, Iran would receive limited relief from economic sanctions in exchange
for concessions on its nuclear programme and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz
to commercial shipping.
However, several major sticking points remain, including the scope of sanctions relief and the future of Iran's uranium enrichment activities. The negotiations have seen multiple rounds of talks in Islamabad, with mediators from Pakistan, Qatar, and other countries working to bridge the gap between the two sides.
