Goa: At least 25 people lost their lives and six others were injured after a major fire broke out at a nightclub in North Goa on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Police said the blaze was likely triggered by a suspected cylinder blast, prompting authorities to launch a magisterial inquiry.
The incident occurred at Birch by Romeo Lane, a popular club located near Baga Beach in Arpora village, around 25 km from Panaji. An FIR for culpable homicide has been registered in connection with the tragedy.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed that an FIR has been filed against the club’s owners, while the manager has already been arrested. “An arrest warrant has been issued against the club owners. Managers and others have already been arrested. Whoever is found guilty will be put behind bars,” he told the media.
Goa Police reported that the victims include four tourists and 14 staff members, while the identities of seven others are still being verified. The six injured individuals are currently receiving treatment. Investigations by the police and fire department are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire, with some eyewitnesses suggesting it may have started on the club’s first floor where tourists were dancing.
