His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, engaged in an official session of talks with His Excellency Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, at Hyderabad House in New Delhi today. This high-profile meeting marks a significant step towards enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi welcomed the Amir and his delegation, expressing gratitude for the visit and emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties in various strategic areas. He expressed hope that this state visit would open new avenues for cooperation between India and Qatar.
In response, His Highness the Amir thanked the Indian leadership and people for their warm hospitality and highlighted the deep-rooted historical connections between the two countries. He reiterated India's role as a key economic partner for Qatar and expressed enthusiasm about furthering trade relations during his second visit to India.
The discussions covered a range of topics, focusing on enhancing cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, and energy. Additionally, both leaders addressed several regional and international issues of mutual interest.
During the session, two significant agreements were exchanged between the governments of Qatar and India. These included an agreement to establish bilateral strategic partnership relations and an accord to avoid double taxation and prevent fiscal evasion concerning income taxes.
The meeting was attended by several dignitaries from both sides, including Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and India's Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, among others.
