Mumbai:
IndiGo has processed refunds amounting to ₹610 crore for passengers affected by
cancelled or heavily delayed flights, the civil aviation ministry said on
Sunday. The government noted that the airline is working to resolve the fallout
from its recent operational crisis, including the delivery of 3,000 pieces of
baggage that were separated from passengers across the country as of Saturday.
The
ministry assured that India’s aviation network is rapidly returning to normal
operations. It stated that all corrective measures will continue until full
stability is achieved. On Saturday, the government directed IndiGo to complete
all pending ticket refunds for cancelled flights by Sunday evening and ensure
that misplaced baggage is returned to passengers within 48 hours.
In
a release, the ministry said no additional fees would be allowed for
rescheduling travel impacted by cancellations, emphasising that dedicated
support cells have been set up to assist passengers and resolve refund or
rebooking issues without delay. It added that other domestic airlines are
operating smoothly at full capacity, while IndiGo’s performance has shown
steady improvement.
According to the government, IndiGo’s flight operations increased from 706 on Friday to 1,565 on Saturday, with the number expected to rise to around 1,650 by the end of Sunday. The ministry highlighted that continuous communication with passengers has been mandated, leading to the successful delivery of 3,000 pieces of baggage to affected travellers.
