National initiative boosts local meat production and stabilizes prices for Ramadan

Doha, Qatar: The national initiative aimed at promoting local production and subsidizing red meat during the holy month of Ramadan is playing a significant role in stabilizing meat prices in the local market. Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Ameri, Director of the Department of Quality Licenses and Market Control at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), stated, "The initiative, which was launched by MoCI, has made local sheep available in larger quantities this year compared to previous years to support local products."

In a post on the Ministry's X platform, he explained that the initiative is designed to ensure the availability of red meat to citizens at reasonable prices throughout Ramadan, helping to balance supply and demand and contributing to price stability in the markets.

"The initiative will continue until the end of Ramadan. Beneficiary citizens can purchase the subsidized sheep from Widam outlets located across the country, including Al Shamal, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Wakra, and Al Sheehaniya," Al Ameri added.

He also mentioned that the Ministry is actively monitoring sales operations through a specialized inspection team and is intensifying inspection campaigns on slaughterhouses to ensure adherence to the initiative's pricing and regulations during this holy month.
