Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has announced that the upcoming high-speed electric rail link between Qatar and Saudi Arabia represents a strategic milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation. The project reflects the two nations’ shared vision to enhance developmental integration, promote sustainable mobility, and open new avenues for regional prosperity.
The
785-kilometre rail line will connect Doha and Riyadh at speeds exceeding 300
km/h, passing through key regions including Al-Hofuf and Dammam. It will also
link Hamad International Airport with King Salman International Airport,
ushering in a new era of rapid, seamless, and sustainable travel between the
two capitals.
Over
10 million passengers are expected to benefit from the service annually,
gaining easier access to major destinations in both countries. The project is
also forecast to generate more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs,
contributing significantly to economic development across the region.
Once
completed, the rail network is projected to add around 115 billion riyals to
the combined GDP of both nations. Built to the highest global safety and
quality standards, the six-year project is designed to support environmental
sustainability, reduce carbon emissions, and strengthen GCC connectivity through
a modern, smart railway system.
