A
Tejas fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed during an aerobatic
display at the Dubai Air Show on Friday, resulting in the tragic loss of its
pilot, the IAF confirmed.
The
HAL-built light combat aircraft went down around 2:10 pm (local time) after it
suddenly descended during a maneuver on the final day of the event at Al
Maktoum International Airport. The incident caused brief panic among
spectators, as emergency teams rushed to the site to contain the situation.
In
a statement, the Indian Air Force said:
"An IAF Tejas aircraft met
with an accident during an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show today. The
pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. Indian Air Force deeply regrets
the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of
grief."
Officials have ordered a court of inquiry to
determine the cause of the accident.
The Tejas had been participating in the prestigious air show as part of India’s aviation showcase, demonstrating the country’s indigenous military aviation capabilities. The IAF and HAL expressed their condolences and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety in future displays.
