The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has called for adherence to the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to help children return to an educational environment after two years of intense Israeli aggression.
According
to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), John White, Deputy Director of UNRWA
Affairs in Gaza, emphasized that Palestinian children are in urgent need of
education and that all possible efforts must be made to make this a reality. He
reaffirmed that UNRWA continues to be the largest provider of emergency
education in the Gaza Strip, working to create safe spaces within schools to
deliver educational services.
White noted that since the recent ceasefire, the agency’s teams have been able to provide education to around 10,000 children per day, a significant decrease compared to the 60,000 students reached during the previous truce. He added that UNRWA is now striving to expand its operations once again, including offering online education services. The agency aims to enroll up to 300,000 children in Gaza for distance learning programs to ensure uninterrupted access to education amid ongoing challenges.
