Vehicle noise violations disrupt public peace, MoI warns motorists

Doha: The Ministry of Interior Qatar (MoI) has warned motorists against producing excessive noise from vehicles, stating that such actions disturb public peace and cause inconvenience to residents. The ministry urged drivers to follow traffic rules and ensure their vehicles comply with approved noise standards.

Authorities explained that vehicle noise levels are measured in decibels (dB) based on standards set by the Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology, which determines the permissible noise limits for vehicles. Motorists are required to ensure their cars and motorcycles meet these limits to avoid disturbing the public.

The General Directorate of Traffic Qatar recently seized 39 vehicles for emitting loud and disturbing noises on the roads and referred the drivers to the competent authorities. The violation falls under Article 58 of the Traffic Law issued by Decree-Law No. 19 of 2007, which prohibits vehicles from producing disturbing noise and requires them to be fitted with a proper muffler (silencer).
