Doha:
England captain and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon
d’Or, becoming the first Englishman in 25 years to receive football’s
prestigious individual honour. He follows Michael Owen, who won the award in
2001.
Kane’s
victory follows a remarkable 2025-26 season in which he scored 61 goals in 51
appearances for Bayern Munich across all competitions. His goalscoring
achievements helped the German club secure the domestic league and cup double.
Spain
midfielder Alexia Putellas won the Ballon d’Or Féminin for the third time,
adding another prestigious honour to her career. Her achievement highlights her
continued excellence in women’s football.
Speaking after receiving the award at Monday’s ceremony in London, Kane thanked those who voted for him and praised the other nominees and winners. He said the recognition was especially meaningful, describing the moment as a celebration of determination and hard work.
