Ministry of Interior warns against driving without headlights at night

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reminded motorists that driving at night without headlights is a violation of Article 70 of Qatar’s Traffic Law. In a social media post, the Ministry emphasized that drivers must ensure their vehicle lights are functional and switched on before starting any journey between sunset and sunrise.

Under Article 70, vehicles must use dipped beam headlights, two rear lights, and a rear plate light during the night or when visibility is poor during the day. The law also prohibits the use of high beams when parked or when approaching another vehicle to avoid dazzling other drivers. Additionally, red lights are not permitted at the front of the vehicle and only white or yellow light (for fog) is allowed.

Specific requirements also apply to motorcycles and bicycles, ensuring they have proper front and rear lighting or reflectors. Violators face serious penalties under Article 95, which include imprisonment from one week to one year and fines ranging from QR 3,000 to QR 10,000, or both.
