Shivamogga, Karnataka: A high school girl gave birth to a premature baby at home on Friday, August 29. The newborn, currently in intensive care at a local hospital, is reported to be stable along with the mother. The girl’s parents, unaware of her seven-month pregnancy, rushed her to the hospital after she complained of severe stomach pain and delivered the baby.

SP G.K. Mithun Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered and further
investigation is underway. The incident has raised concerns about child
protection and awareness in the region.
Shashidhar Kosambe, member of the Karnataka State Commission for Child Rights, criticised the delay in action, stating that the case should have been booked under the POCSO Act within 24 hours. He urged parents to stay vigilant about their children’s wellbeing and play an active role in spreading awareness against sexual abuse
