Jerusalem: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday left for India after completing his two-day visit to Israel, expressing appreciation for the warm reception and productive engagements during the trip.
During the visit,
Modi held wide-ranging talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and
met President Isaac Herzog. The leaders agreed to elevate bilateral ties to a
special strategic partnership, marking a new phase in India-Israel relations.
Several agreements
were signed following the discussions, including cooperation in civil and
nuclear energy. Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to further
strengthening defence collaboration and advancing efforts toward a mutually
beneficial free trade agreement.
The two countries
reviewed progress on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and
discussed cooperation under the I2U2 framework comprising India, Israel, the
UAE and the United States.
In his address to the
Knesset, Modi reiterated support for peace efforts in the region, stating that
terrorism remains a threat to global stability. He also became the first
foreign leader to receive the ‘Speaker of the Knesset Medal,’ the highest
honour of the Israeli Parliament.
Before concluding his visit, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Holocaust victims at the Yad Vashem memorial in Jerusalem.
