Doha, Qatar: The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani inaugurated the Second World Summit for Social Development 2025 today, November 4, at the Qatar National Convention Center. The summit brings together world leaders, senior officials, and representatives from regional and international organizations to discuss strategies for advancing global social development and achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
During
his address, the Amir called upon the international community to double down on
its efforts and to provide support to the Palestinian people “for the
construction and to secure the basic needs for these resilient people until
justice is administered and they are able to exercise their legitimate right on
their territories.” He emphasized that sustainable peace and stability are essential
for achieving social development, stating that true peace must be just and
enduring, not temporary settlements.
The
Amir also expressed deep concern over the atrocities committed in El-Fasher,
Sudan, describing them as a tragic reminder of the dangers of political
instability. “The Sudan has been going through this carnage and manslaughter
for two and a half years, and it’s high time we stop this carnage,” he said,
urging the international community to pursue a political solution that
preserves Sudan’s territorial integrity and restores peace to the nation.
In
his opening remarks, the Amir underlined that social development is not a
matter of choice but an “existential necessity.” He urged the world to
take the opportunity of the summit to recommit to the United Nations Charter
and strengthen multilateral efforts to make social development a foundation for
global security and stability.
Highlighting
Qatar’s active role in promoting development worldwide, HH the Amir reaffirmed
that Qatar will continue to contribute through its humanitarian and development
efforts. “Qatar will remain an active partner in the international community,
supporting social development through the Qatar Development Fund and Qatar
Charity,” he said, emphasizing Qatar’s commitment to aiding several countries
across different regions.
The Amir also commended the adoption of the Doha Declaration at the summit, calling it the product of “relentless efforts and consultations” and a significant step forward in advancing the global vision for social development. He noted that the declaration reinforces human dignity, equality, and peace, serving as a roadmap to accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and address key challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and social inequality.
