New Delhi: Iran has allowed ships carrying the
Indian flag to pass through the Strait of Hormuz despite the rising tensions in
the region linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States,
and Israel.
According to sources, the decision came after
discussions between India and Iran through diplomatic channels. India had
raised concerns about the safety of its vessels and crew operating in the Gulf
region.
Following the talks, Iranian authorities permitted
Indian-flagged ships to continue their passage through the strategic waterway.
Reports said a few Indian tankers have already crossed the route safely after
receiving clearance.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most
important shipping lanes, through which a large share of global oil supplies is
transported. Any disruption in the area can affect international trade and
energy markets.
Officials said India is closely watching the
situation and remains in contact with authorities in the region to ensure the
safety of Indian ships and seafarers travelling through the route.
