Massive explosion at Southern Iran port injures over 500

A massive explosion and fire shook the Shahid Rajaei port near Bandar Abbas in southern Iran on Saturday, injuring at least 516 people, according to state television. This major facility, which handles around 80 million tons of goods annually, is crucial for container shipments in the Islamic Republic.

Social media footage captured thick, black smoke rising after the blast, while other videos showed windows shattered kilometers away from the explosion site. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the explosion, though footage suggests a highly combustible material may have ignited.

While industrial accidents are not uncommon in Iran, particularly in its aging oil facilities, state TV confirmed that no energy infrastructure was involved or damaged in this incident.
