Tianjin: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on Sunday, marking their first bilateral meeting in seven years. The talks took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, with global economic challenges and strained India-China ties high on the agenda.
Modi
underlined the need for greater collaboration between India and China to help
stabilise the global economic order, especially amid ongoing trade tensions
with the United States. In a recent interview, he stressed that constructive
bilateral relations would contribute to global peace and prosperity.
The meeting follows Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent visit to India, where both sides agreed on steps to normalise relations, including restoring border trade, resuming direct flights, and maintaining peace along the Line of Actual Control. The talks in Tianjin are seen as a fresh attempt to reset ties strained since the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes.
