United States President Donald Trump has been briefed on new military options against Iran as widespread protests deepen inside the country and spread to cities abroad, according to US officials quoted by the New York Times. The briefings come amid growing concern in Washington over Tehran’s violent crackdown on demonstrations that began late last month.
While
no final decision has been taken, officials said Trump is seriously considering
limited, targeted strikes if Iranian authorities escalate their response. The
options reportedly include actions aimed at Iran’s security apparatus,
including specific sites in Tehran, should the situation deteriorate further.
Protests
triggered by a currency crisis and rising living costs have continued despite a
near-total internet blackout, with human rights groups reporting dozens of
deaths and thousands of arrests. Iran’s leadership has shown little sign of
compromise, with senior officials warning of harsher measures against
protesters.
The unrest has drawn global attention, with solidarity demonstrations reported in several European cities and in Washington. Trump has warned Iran against using lethal force and said the United States stands ready to support the Iranian people, stressing that any potential US response would avoid deploying ground troops.
