Christmas night burglary in Thiruvananthapuram; 71 pavan gold jewellery stolen

Thiruvananthapuram: A burglary was reported on Christmas night at Kattakkada in Thiruvananthapuram, where unidentified persons broke into a house and stole gold jewellery weighing 71 pavan (approximately 568 grams) while the family was attending church.

The incident occurred at the residence of Shine Kumar at Kattaikkode, Kotamkuzhi, Thozhukkalkonam. Shine Kumar and his family had left for a nearby church around 6 pm. When his wife Anubha returned home around 9 pm, she noticed that a front-side door was open. On checking inside, it was found that the bedroom cupboard had been forcibly broken open and gold ornaments-including children’s bracelets, bangles, rings and necklaces-were missing.

Gold jewellery belonging to Anubha’s sister and her husband, kept in the house as they were away, was also stolen. The burglars had allegedly cut the electricity supply by removing the fuse before committing the theft.

Police said all cupboards and locked sections of the house were broken open and household items were found scattered. There was also an attempt to break open the main door.

A team comprising Kattakkada Police, fingerprint experts, a dog squad and forensic officials conducted an inspection at the scene. Rural District Police Chief Sudarshan visited the house and confirmed that a special investigation team has been formed to probe the incident
