HMC launches Geriatric Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Clinic at Qatar Rehabilitation Institute

Doha, Qatar: Hamad Medical Corporation has inaugurated the Geriatric Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Clinic at the Qatar Rehabilitation Institute (QRI). This groundbreaking initiative is designed to offer advanced and comprehensive care, supporting elderly patients' independence and improving their quality of life.

The new clinic features specialized treatment programs aimed at enhancing muscle strength, flexibility, and balance, helping to alleviate chronic pain, minimize fall risks, and empower seniors to perform daily activities with greater confidence and safety.

Dr. Hanadi Al Hamad, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Long-term Care, Rehabilitation & Geriatrics at HMC, said: "The opening of this clinic represents a valuable addition to Qatar's healthcare system and an important step in supporting the elderly in the country. Through our advanced rehabilitation and treatment programmes, we help them maintain mobility, reduce the risk of falls, and improve their quality of life. The launch of this clinic also aligns with the goals of the Qatar National Health Strategy 2024-2030, which prioritizes healthy aging and integrated care, ensuring preventive, sustainable, and patient-centered services."

Noora Al Madahka, Assistant Executive Director for Clinical Services, Physiotherapy, highlighted the essential role of physiotherapists in supporting patients with practical solutions to maintain activity and community involvement. "The clinic provides an integrated treatment system that begins with accurate diagnosis and culminates in empowering the patient. Its key services include conducting a comprehensive and precise assessment of each individual case, where specialists focus on identifying the root causes of pain or impaired mobility, which is essential for developing an effective treatment plan,” she added.

As per the assessment results, individualized treatment plans are formulated, incorporating specialized exercise programs aimed at strengthening muscles and enhancing joint flexibility. The services emphasize advanced balance training, specifically designed to mitigate the risk of falls and bolster the patient's confidence in mobility.

To address chronic pain, both manual and advanced therapeutic techniques are employed to alleviate symptoms and significantly improve patients' quality of life. Additionally, comprehensive rehabilitation programs are offered for patients recovering from injuries or surgical interventions, such as fractures and joint surgeries, ensuring a safe and effective return to full functional capacity.

Health education is also a fundamental aspect of the services provided by the new clinic. Patients and their families receive guidance and information to foster healthy lifestyle habits and help prevent future injuries.
