India has strongly protested to the United States after three Indian sailors were killed in a US Navy strike on a commercial oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar raised the issue directly with Marco Rubio, calling such actions against commercial shipping "not justified."
The
Ministry of External Affairs also summoned the US Chargé d'Affaires in New
Delhi and lodged a strong diplomatic protest. India expressed deep concern over
the use of lethal force against civilian vessels and stressed that such
incidents threaten maritime safety and international trade.
The
incident involved the Palau-flagged tanker Settebello, which had 24
Indian crew members on board. While 21 Indian sailors were rescued, three crew
members who were initially reported missing were later confirmed dead.
India
has urged the US to ensure the safety of civilian shipping and prevent further
loss of life. The government also reiterated its call for immediate
de-escalation and a return to dialogue amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
