Rome: Italy is preparing to assist Gulf nations by providing air-defence support amid rising security concerns in the region.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said the
move is intended to strengthen defensive capabilities and help protect both
allied countries and Italian nationals living or working in the Gulf. She also
highlighted the importance of stability in the region for global energy
security and international cooperation.
The proposed assistance may include advanced
defence systems designed to intercept missiles, aircraft and drones, along with
specialised anti-drone technology. These systems are expected to help safeguard
critical infrastructure and improve protection against aerial threats.
Officials said the discussions come as Gulf
countries seek stronger defensive measures following recent regional tensions
and security incidents
