Doha: The Ministry of Interior has
detailed the procedures, requirements and key guidelines for obtaining a
driving licence in Qatar, highlighting the documents applicants must provide
and the steps they need to complete before receiving their licence.
In a social media post, the ministry
said applicants must submit valid identity proof, a personal photograph, a
valid residence permit, and undergo a medical examination to assess vision and
overall health. It also stressed that meeting the licensing rules is essential,
warning that driving without a valid licence poses a risk to all road users.
Eligibility and age requirement
The ministry said applicants must be at
least 18 years old to apply for licences for light vehicles, motorcycles and
vehicles for persons with disabilities.
For heavy vehicles, machinery and public
transport categories, the minimum age requirement is 21 years.
Driving school registration
Applicants are required to enroll in an
accredited driving school as part of the licensing process.
The ministry noted that candidates must
complete the required training before moving to the next stage.
Theory and practical tests
To qualify for a driving licence,
applicants must successfully pass both the theoretical and practical driving
tests.
Only those who complete both tests
successfully will be eligible to obtain the licence.
How to collect the licence
After passing the required tests,
drivers can obtain their licence through two main channels.
The ministry said applicants can either visit the traffic office at their driving school or use online services through Metrash and the official Ministry of Interior website.
