Operation Tufan to crack down on drug mafia; Police Stations to become public service centers

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has announced a major statewide anti-drug initiative titled “Operation Tufan” aimed at curbing the growing spread of narcotics and illegal drug networks across the state.

Addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, the minister said strict action will be taken against those involved in the sale of tobacco products and narcotic substances near school premises. The operation will officially begin on June 1, coinciding with the reopening of schools after the vacation.

Chennithala stated that the government is determined to protect students and youth from the increasing threat of drug abuse and ensure stronger monitoring around educational institutions.

The Home Minister also announced plans to transform police stations into more people-friendly public service centers. As part of the initiative, steps will be taken to improve station environments and clear old vehicles that have been impounded and left piled up in station compounds for years.

He added that the government’s focus is not only on strengthening law enforcement but also on improving public accessibility and confidence in the police system.
