Tokyo: Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue and mediation as key pillars of its foreign policy, calling for greater international cooperation to resolve conflicts, ease humanitarian suffering and promote global stability.
Speaking
at the Parliamentary Association for Peace Mediation at Japan’s House of
Representatives in Tokyo, HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi said Qatar’s approach is rooted
in its constitutional commitments and the belief that diplomacy plays a vital
role in protecting lives and reducing suffering. He stressed that successful
mediation requires trust, credibility, patience, respect for commitments and
confidentiality.
Dr
Al Khulaifi highlighted Qatar’s mediation efforts in Afghanistan, the Gaza
Strip and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as initiatives to
reunite children with their families amid the war in Ukraine. He emphasised
that implementing agreements and fulfilling commitments are essential to
achieving lasting peace, while protecting mediators and maintaining negotiation
channels remain crucial to peaceful conflict resolution.
The
minister praised the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between
Qatar and Japan, expressing hope for stronger cooperation in promoting
dialogue, reducing tensions and coordinating humanitarian and development
efforts in conflict-affected countries. He also called for greater exchange of
