Nepal's police have detained 423 individuals accused of crimes including murder and vandalism during a violent mass uprising in September that led to the government's downfall, according to police data released on Monday. The suspects are also charged with illegal possession and use of weapons, theft, and indecent behavior, the data indicated. "A team is looking into the incidences and we are working to collect information," said Nepal police spokesman Abi Narayan Kafle.

The protests, spearheaded by youth under the banner "Gen Z" to represent those under 28, ignited on September 8 following a government ban on social media. The movement was further fueled by economic hardship and growing anger over corruption. What began as protests evolved into nationwide turmoil, culminating in the government's collapse as demonstrators set fire to parliament and the Supreme Court. According to a new police toll, at least 76 people lost their lives in two days of violence, including 63 protesters, 10 escaped prisoners, and three police officers.
