Turkiye announced the discovery of 92.4 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas this year, valued at $37 billion. Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, revealed during a press conference that 75 bcm of the discovery were located in the Goktepe-3 well last May.

Presenting his ministry's 2026 budget to the Planning and Budget Committee of the Turkish Parliament, Bayraktar outlined plans for 300 drilling operations in 2026, with 282 onshore and 18 offshore. He highlighted Turkiye's record-breaking oil and gas production levels, reporting daily oil production at 180,000 barrels-enough to power approximately 7 million vehicles.

Bayraktar noted significant oil production increases at Mount Gabar in Sirnak province, rising from 57,000 to 81,000 barrels per day, which has helped reduce the trade deficit by around $2 billion annually. He added that over the past decade, Turkiye has built the world's fourth-largest exploration and production fleet, with six drilling vessels and two seismic survey ships.

He said that gas production in the Sakarya gas field, facilitated by the new floating platform "Osman Gazi," is expected to reach 20 million cubic meters per day by 2026 and increase to 45 million cubic meters per day by 2028.
