Amazon plans fresh wave of corporate job cuts next week

Amazon is preparing to launch another major round of corporate job cuts next week, as part of its broader plan to trim around 30,000 white-collar roles, according to sources cited by Reuters. The layoffs are expected to begin as early as Tuesday and could be similar in scale to the 14,000 jobs cut in October last year, bringing the company closer to its overall target.

The upcoming cuts are expected to affect teams across Amazon Web Services (AWS), retail, Prime Video, and human resources (People Experience and Technology). While the company previously linked layoffs to the rise of artificial intelligence, CEO Andy Jassy later clarified that the move was driven more by internal restructuring and reducing bureaucracy rather than financial pressure or AI alone.

If completed, the 30,000 job reductions would account for nearly 10% of Amazon’s corporate workforce, though it represents a small fraction of its total 1.58 million global employees. This would mark the largest layoff in Amazon’s history, surpassing the 27,000 jobs cut in 2022, as the tech giant continues reshaping its operations amid automation and AI-driven efficiencies.
