HMC's Hamad Trauma Center designated as WHO Collaborating Center on Trauma

Doha, Qatar: Hamad Medical Corporation's (HMC) Hamad Trauma Center has been officially designated as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center on Trauma.

This esteemed recognition marks the Trauma Center as the third WHO Collaborating Center at HMC, joining the ranks of the WHO Collaborating Center for Treating Tobacco Dependence (HMC's Tobacco Control Center) and the WHO Collaborating Center for Healthy Ageing and Dementia (HMC's Department of Geriatrics and Long-Term Care).

Established in 2007 at Hamad General Hospital, the Hamad Trauma Center was classified as a Level 1 Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. It has since evolved into a premier institution and serves as the cornerstone of Qatar's national Trauma System. Since 2014, HMC's Trauma System has been accredited with Trauma Distinction by Accreditation Canada International, the global authority for trauma system accreditation.

HE Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of HMC, commented on this achievement, stating, "The designation of the Hamad Trauma Center as an official WHO Collaborating Center on Trauma is a testament to the excellence of HMC in the field of trauma care. This prestigious recognition underscores our commitment to advancing trauma research, education, and clinical excellence, not only in Qatar but across the region and beyond. Through this collaboration, we will continue to drive innovation, enhance patient outcomes, and contribute to the advancement of global trauma care."

The WHO Collaborating Center on Trauma at HMC will focus on several key areas, including, supporting WHO in evaluating, upgrading, and strengthening trauma referral pathways, assisting WHO in developing and disseminating training, educational tools, and standards for trauma management and contributing to WHO's efforts to establish a global community of practice on trauma care.
