PHCC launches cupping therapy clinics to offer safe alternative for chronic pain management

Doha, Qatar: The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has officially launched Cupping Therapy Clinics, providing a regulated and medically supervised environment for wet cupping therapy, also known as hijama. This initiative aims to expand PHCC's service offerings and presents patients with a safe and effective alternative for managing chronic pain.

Cupping therapy, a traditional healing technique widely practised across various cultures, is recognized for its potential benefits in alleviating conditions such as chronic back pain, migraines, and muscle pain. In a statement, PHCC emphasized the importance of patient safety and efficacy, noting that the service will be administered by privileged physicians, supported by specially trained nursing staff.

"By offering this service in a controlled and infection-free environment, we are addressing the growing demand for alternative therapies while ensuring the highest standards of safety and professionalism," said Dr. Wadha al-Baker, PHCC's director of Wellness Programmes.

To access the cupping therapy service, patients are required to consult their family physician for eligibility and undergo necessary blood tests to meet the criteria. The service is currently available at Umm Salal, Al Sadd, and Umm Seneem Health Centres. For appointments, patients can call the number 107 to connect with a family physician.
