Indian Community in Qatar extends solidarity to Wayanad flood victims with ₹50 Lakh contribution to CMDRF

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: July 30, 2025: In a powerful act of unity and humanitarian commitment, the Indian community in Qatar has extended heartfelt support to the victims of the 2024 Wayanad floods and landslides by contributing 50 lakhs to the Chief Ministers Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF), Government of Kerala. The gesture stands as a strong testament to the enduring solidarity between Indian expatriates and their homeland during times of crisis.

The devastating natural disaster that struck Wayanad in 2024 resulted in the tragic loss of lives and widespread destruction across the hilly district of Kerala. Responding to the calamity, the Embassy of India in Qatar organized a special meeting on August 3, 2024, at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) in Doha. The meeting, presided over by H.E. Mr. Vipul, Ambassador of India to Qatar, brought together leaders of the Indian diaspora and key representatives from the Embassy's affiliated Apex Bodies - including the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), Indian Sports Centre (ISC), and Indian Business and Professionals Council (IBPC).

Following a collective resolution during the meeting, a unified relief initiative was launched, spearheaded by ICBF in collaboration with fellow apex organizations. A dedicated Wayanad Relief Committee was formed to lead the campaign and coordinate contributions from Indian expatriates across Qatar. The effort witnessed generous participation and enthusiastic support from a wide cross-section of the community, transcending organizational and regional lines.

The funds raised through this campaign - amounting to 50 lakhs -were formally handed over to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund on July 27, 2025, at Cliff House, the official residence of the Chief Minister of Kerala in Trivandrum. Representing the community were Mr. Shanavas Bava, President of ICBF; Mr. Thaha Muhammed, President of IBPC; and Mr. C.V. Rappai, Director of NORKA, all of whom were present during the handover ceremony.

This contribution not only provides critical assistance to the affected families in Wayanad but also reinforces the Indian community in Qatar’s unwavering commitment to social responsibility and national solidarity. The Embassy of India and the Apex Bodies have extended their profound appreciation to all individuals, groups, and organizations who came forward with compassion and generosity, upholding the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” - the world is one family.
