Recent reports indicate that Israeli forces violated the Gaza ceasefire agreement,  which took effect on January 19, by opening fire on groups of returning refugees in northern Gaza. According to reports, the military engaged in three separate instances of gunfire overnight on Sunday, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuries to nine others, including a child.

In response to the incident, Israel's military defended its actions by alleging that Hamas had breached the ceasefire agreement. They asserted that the shots fired were merely warning shots directed at gatherings of individuals deemed as suspects, who were reportedly advancing towards Israeli troops and posing a potential threat. Under the terms of the ceasefire agreement, Israel was expected to permit Palestinians to return to their homes in northern Gaza. However, the Israeli government has obstructed this process, insisting that Hamas must release a civilian hostage, a demand they allege should have been fulfilled by Saturday.

In related developments, both Hamas and Jordan have expressed opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to temporarily relocate the Gazan population to Egypt and Jordan. Egypt has already dismissed the proposal, voicing concerns that it could lead to a permanent displacement of Palestinians. President Trump's suggestion was framed as part of a strategy for rebuilding Gaza.

Hamas has firmly rejected this notion, asserting that Palestinians will not accept such measures and expressing confidence in their ability to rebuild Gaza more effectively than before, provided that Israel lifts its blockade, according to reports.
