Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas official, expressed concerns on Wednesday regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks about potentially taking control of the Gaza Strip, describing them as "ridiculous" and "absurd." He emphasized that such statements could destabilise the Middle East.

The President's proposal suggests that the U.S. would oversee the development of the war-affected Gaza Strip following the resettlement of Palestinians to other areas. This approach marks a significant departure from long-standing U.S. policy regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and could provoke strong reactions from Arab nations.

Trump revealed this proposal in a joint press conference in Washington on Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, although he did not provide detailed specifics. The foreign ministry of Saudi Arabia has publicly rejected any efforts to displace Palestinians from their land in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The announcement concerning Gaza comes in the wake of Trump's previous proposal concerning the permanent resettlement of over two million Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring countries, characterizing the enclave as a "demolition site" amid a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
