Doha, Qatar: Mowasalat (Karwa), Qatar’s premier public transport provider, has officially launched the country’s first RoboTaxi service under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, marking a significant step forward in Qatar’s journey towards smart, sustainable, and technology-driven mobility in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The
introduction of the RoboTaxi service signals the arrival of autonomous
transportation in Qatar, offering enhanced safety, comfort, and operational
efficiency through advanced self-driving technologies. Each RoboTaxi is fitted
with a sophisticated integrated system comprising eleven cameras, four radars,
and four LiDAR sensors, delivering full 360-degree situational awareness,
accurate navigation, and real-time obstacle detection.
To
ensure maximum safety, the vehicles are supported by a built-in redundancy
system that allows them to safely navigate to the nearest secure location in
the event of any technical irregularity. All operational and passenger data
generated by the RoboTaxi service are securely stored and processed within the
State of Qatar, ensuring strict compliance with national data localization and
cybersecurity standards.
Developed and rigorously tested in collaboration with leading global autonomous technology partners, the service blends international expertise with Qatar’s regulatory and operational frameworks. The launch underscores Mowasalat’s commitment to innovation and its pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation in Qatar through advanced technology, sustainability, and service excellence.
