Doha, Qatar: Doha will witness a high-voltage football showdown as the QIFF
Super Cup Season 16 - popularly known as the football World Cup of Malayalees
in Qatar - reaches its grand finale on Friday, December 19, at the Al Ahli
Stadium in Hilal. Undefeated sides QRI FC Thrissur and Grand Mall FC Malappuram
will battle for the prestigious title, promising an intense and thrilling
contest for football lovers.
Grand
Mall FC Malappuram booked their place in the final with a narrow but dominant
victory over United Ernakulam in the second semi-final. Nawaf emerged as the
match-winner by scoring the decisive goal, earning the Man of the Match honour.
Malappuram have been in formidable form throughout the tournament, led by goal
machine Jamsheer, who has already netted seven goals. Strong support from
players such as Shemarton, Shagin, Thowfeeq and Nawaf has made Malappuram one
of the most balanced and dangerous teams of the season.
QRI FC Thrissur, on the other hand, have showcased
consistency and tactical discipline on their road to the final. The team is
banking on the experience and performance of key players including Musoof,
John, Shaheen and Rasheed and Antony. With both teams remaining unbeaten so
far, the final is expected to be a fiery encounter filled with passion, skill
and relentless attacking football.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, a grand music
and dance programme has been arranged ahead of the final match. Popular singer
Akbar Khan, who won hearts through SaReGaMaPa and Bigg
Boss, will be the main attraction. Renowned performers Prathap Das
and Riyas Kariyad will also take the stage, while the energetic Manjappada Band
Team is set to enthral the crowd with their vibrant performance. A special
appearance by the MES School Band will further elevate the celebratory mood at
the stadium.
Meanwhile, as
the Super Cup excitement peaks, football fans are already gearing up for the
upcoming Easakka Sevens tournament. More than 200 players have registered so
far, with 16 franchises preparing to field teams. The matches are scheduled in
a way that the grand final will take place in the first week of February,
keeping the football spirit alive among expatriate Malayali fans in Qatar even
after the Super Cup concludes.
