Doha, Qatar: In a high-intensity semifinal clash, Thrissur booked their place in the QIFF Super Cup 2025 final after defeating Maps Kozhikode 4–2 in a nail-biting penalty shootout on Friday night at Doha Stadium.
Thrissur
took an early advantage when John Anto (Jersey No.24) opened the scoring in the 14th
minute, finishing a well-constructed move to give his side the lead. The match
remained tightly contested, with Kozhikode pushing hard for an equalizer.
Their
efforts finally paid off just three minutes before full time, when Kozhikode’s
in-form forward Muzammil
(Jersey No.16) struck a crucial goal, bringing the match level
at 1–1 and sending the crowd into a frenzy.
With
extra time producing no further goals, the semifinal headed into a tense
penalty shootout. Thrissur held their nerve, converting four of their attempts
while Kozhikode managed only two, sealing Thrissur’s spot in the final.
For his opening goal and overall impact throughout
the match, Thrissur’s John Anto
was awarded Man
of the Match.
