Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that Tehran currently has no plans to engage in talks with the United States, dismissing recent claims by U.S. President Donald Trump that negotiations were scheduled for next week. Speaking on state television, Araqchi emphasized that Iran is still evaluating whether dialogue with Washington aligns with its national interests.
This statement follows a series of five negotiation rounds that were abruptly halted after coordinated strikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iran’s nuclear facilities. While the two countries claim the attacks aimed to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, Tehran maintains that its nuclear programme is intended solely for peaceful, civilian purposes.
Araqchi acknowledged that the strikes caused significant damage and stated that Iranian authorities are now reassessing the state of the nuclear programme. He added that this reassessment will play a key role in shaping Iran’s future diplomatic direction.
