U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday called for renewed efforts to reach a ceasefire in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, now stretching into its 20th month. Trump urged negotiators to “MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA. GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!!” on social media, expressing optimism that a breakthrough could come within a week. Despite the call for peace, many Palestinians remain skeptical, citing unfulfilled past promises.

In a sign of possible diplomatic movement, top Israeli adviser Ron Dermer is expected in Washington this week for ceasefire discussions, with plans underway for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Netanyahu met with his security Cabinet Sunday night, though final plans remain undisclosed.

Despite ongoing negotiations, the violence persists. Israeli airstrikes hit a house sheltering displaced civilians in Jabaliya al-Nazla, killing at least 15 people, including women and children, according to Gaza health officials. The area was among those covered by a recent Israeli evacuation order. Netanyahu emphasized the dual goals of rescuing hostages and defeating Hamas, saying both missions are within reach.
