Doha,
Qatar: Qatar’s FIFA Arab Cup 2025 campaign came to a disappointing end after a
3-0 defeat to Tunisia at Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday. The home side, needing a
win to stay alive, were outplayed by the 2021 runners-up, with goals from Mohamed
Ali Ben Romdhane, Yassine Meriah, and Ben Ali sealing a dominant Tunisian
victory. With just one point from three matches, Julen Lopetegui’s young Qatar
squad exited the tournament at the group stage.
In
the other Group A match, Palestine and Syria played out a goalless draw at
Education City Stadium, a result that sent both teams into the quarter-finals
with five points each. Despite a few chances on both ends, neither side could
find the breakthrough, with a VAR-overturned penalty for Palestine adding to
the drama in front of 39,571 fans.
The group
standings concluded with Palestine and Syria progressing, Tunisia finishing
third with four points despite their win, and Qatar finishing bottom. Qatar’s
lone goal in the tournament came in the earlier 1-1 draw against Syria,
rounding off a disappointing campaign for the two-time AFC Asian Cup champions.
