Trump expands Gaza ‘Board of Peace’, invites Egypt and Turkiye

Washington: The White House has announced additional details of its proposed international “Board of Peace” that will oversee the temporary administration of the Gaza Strip under President Donald Trump’s plan, while confirming that Egypt and Turkiye have been invited to join the body.

In a statement, the White House said the Board includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Jared Kushner, private equity billionaire Marc Rowan, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, and Trump adviser Robert Gabriel. Former UN Middle East peace coordinator Nikolay Mladenov has been named High Representative for Gaza, with more members to be announced.

Egypt and Turkiye separately confirmed that President Trump has sent formal letters inviting President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to become members of the proposed Board.

Under the plan, the Board of Peace would supervise a Palestinian technocratic authority during a transitional period in Gaza, with President Trump set to chair the council. Major General Jasper Jeffers, former commander of US special operations, has been appointed to lead the international stabilization force in the territory.
