20th Asian Medical Camp on Friday, health awareness classes for public

Doha: Preparations have been completed for the 20th Asian Medical Camp, organised by the Center for Indian Community (CIC Qatar) in collaboration with the Indian Doctors Club, General Convener Noufal Paleri has announced.

The camp will be held from 6:30am to 4pm on Friday at Umm Seneem Health Center in Ain Khalid, with the approval and cooperation of Qatar's Ministry of Public Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, and Primary Health Care Corporation. The initiative aims to provide medical care to low-income expatriate workers and their families.

The inauguration ceremony at 9am will be attended by Asian ambassadors, embassy officials, healthcare authorities, and community leaders. More than 3,400 people have registered for the camp, including 381 women from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Over 3,000 pre-registered patients will receive consultations and treatment from specialist doctors in cardiology, nephrology, hepatology, orthopaedics, dermatology, ENT, ophthalmology, dentistry, and internal medicine. Digital registration cards specifying appointment times and registration numbers have been issued, with consultations arranged across three shifts.

A key highlight of the camp will be health awareness classes for the general public in the afternoon. Dr. Soni C Das, Dermatologist, will speak on "Protect Skin, Protect Health"; Dr. Krishnakumar K, Nephrology Specialist at Hamad Hospital, will address kidney disease prevention; and Dr. Hema KP, Gynaecologist at Aster MIMS, will conduct a session on cervical cancer. Other awareness programmes will cover diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, healthy eating, tobacco-related risks, occupational health and safety, personal hygiene, basic life support, and first aid.

The camp will also offer blood donation, organ donation registration, counselling, physiotherapy, audiology, vision screening, ENT consultations, dental screening, and tests for blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol. Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Diabetic Association, United Nurses of India Qatar, Wellcare Pharmacy, the Indian Pharmacists Association, and the Indian Physiotherapy Forum are among the organisations supporting the initiative. Launched in 2002, the Asian Medical Camp has grown into one of the largest community medical initiatives in the GCC, and this year's camp will be supported by more than 150 specialist doctors, 250 medical professionals, and over 600 CIC Qatar volunteers.
