A 29-year-old South
African woman, Gcina Dhladhla, was found dead in an office washroom after
reportedly being denied sick leave despite feeling seriously unwell. Dhladhla
worked as a call centre agent at Cartrack in Rosebank and had allegedly
submitted multiple sick leave requests before her death.
According to family
members and colleagues, she had been suffering from health issues and was
visibly distressed in the days leading up to the incident. One colleague
claimed Dhladhla had broken down in tears at work, saying she was too sick to
continue working but was still scheduled for duty.
Her family alleged
that managers failed to act quickly enough when her condition worsened,
claiming valuable time was lost while discussions took place regarding medical
costs. They believe she could have received timely treatment if she had been
taken to hospital immediately.
Cartrack has rejected the allegations, stating that trained first responders attended to Dhladhla and emergency medical services were called without delay. The incident has sparked widespread debate about workplace health policies, employee welfare, and the importance of responding promptly to staff health concerns.
