Doha: Traffic authorities have reminded motorists
that allowing passengers to sit on the roof of a moving vehicle is a violation
of road safety laws.
In an advisory, officials stressed that all
occupants must remain properly seated inside the vehicle and wear seatbelts.
Travelling on the roof or any exterior part of a vehicle exposes passengers to
extreme danger, particularly during sudden braking, sharp turns or collisions.
Authorities said drivers bear responsibility for
ensuring that passengers comply with safety regulations. Any breach of the
rules may result in fines and other legal action under the country’s traffic
laws.
The warning forms part of broader road safety
awareness efforts aimed at reducing preventable accidents and encouraging
responsible driving behaviour.
Motorists have been urged to prioritize safety at
all times and ensure that vehicles are not overloaded or used in ways that put
lives at risk.
