Dubai: Dubai Police have successfully recovered a rare pink diamond worth $25 million, just hours after it was stolen in a sophisticated scheme by an international crime gang.
According
to a statement issued through the UAE’s official news agency WAM, a European
diamond trader had brought the jewel to Dubai and was lured to a villa by the
gang under the pretense of showcasing it to a wealthy client. Upon arrival for
the fake viewing, the gem was stolen.
Police
said specialized teams, supported by advanced artificial intelligence
technologies, tracked down the suspects and arrested three men from an
unspecified Asian country within eight hours of the theft.
Video
footage released by the Dubai Media Office showed the suspects with blurred faces
during their arrest, along with CCTV clips capturing the gang in action.
Dubai, a leading hub for diamond trading, is renowned for its tight security and stability. The swift operation further highlights the efficiency of its law enforcement authorities in combating high-profile crimes.
