Tens of thousands of Israelis
filled the streets of Tel Aviv on Sunday, calling for an immediate end to the
war in Gaza and the release of hostages held by Hamas for nearly 700 days.
Protesters marched through downtown before gathering at Hostage Square, the
focal point of the movement, in what appeared to be one of the largest
demonstrations since the conflict began 22 months ago.
Families of captives, including Einav
Tzangauker, whose son Matan remains in Gaza, urged the government to pursue a
comprehensive agreement to end the war. “We demand a comprehensive and
achievable agreement and an end to the war. We demand what is rightfully ours —
our children,” Tzangauker told the crowd. Demonstrators also expressed
frustration with Israel’s global image and deepening internal divisions.
The protests gained momentum following Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to launch a new offensive in Gaza City,
drawing international criticism and warnings from aid agencies about worsening
famine. Many in the crowd voiced fears for their children serving in the army,
with parents urging the government to listen before more lives are lost.
