Doha, Qatar: The 2015 Building, home to Qatar Foundation (QF) Headquarters, was illuminated in blue to mark World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, 2025. This initiative, led by Renad Academy, in collaboration with QF’s Special Schools and Special Educational Needs Services, aimed to spread awareness and foster public support for individuals with autism.
Key landmarks across Education City, including Education City Stadium, Sidra Medicine, and Qatar National Convention Centre, also joined in the campaign, reinforcing the significance of autism acceptance and inclusion.
Since its establishment by the United Nations in 2007, based on a proposal by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, World Autism Awareness Day has grown into a global movement, shifting from raising awareness to promoting acceptance, appreciation, and inclusion. The symbolic use of blue light—a color associated with calmness and support—serves as a reminder of the contributions individuals with autism make to society and the importance of creating inclusive communities.
Beyond awareness initiatives, Qatar Foundation continues to lead efforts in autism support through research, policy advocacy, and innovative technology development. This includes the creation of an eye-tracking tool for autism detection, sensory-friendly spaces at key venues such as Qatar National Library, and community-driven educational programs. These initiatives reflect QF’s commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals with autism and fostering a more inclusive and supportive society.
