FIFA
President Gianni Infantino has announced via Instagram that the volunteer
application program for the FIFA World Cup 2026 is now open, with more than
65,000 volunteers expected to take part in what will be the largest volunteer
programme in the tournament’s history.
For
the first time, the World Cup will be jointly hosted by three countries — USA,
Canada, and Mexico — staging a total of 104 matches across 16 cities. Infantino
described volunteers as “the heart, soul, and smile” of FIFA tournaments, highlighting
the opportunity to showcase local pride, enjoy behind-the-scenes access, and
create memories and friendships that last a lifetime.
To
be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old, commit to eight shifts
during the tournament between June 11 and July 19, 2026, and meet the entry
requirements of the host country. A good command of English is required, with
additional languages considered an advantage. Volunteers will also need to
attend team tryouts, complete mandatory training, and pass a background check.
Applications will remain open until the end of
September 2025, followed by Volunteer Team Tryouts from October 2025 to January
2026. Successful candidates will receive role offers between December 2025 and
March 2026, with training and preparations running until June 2026.
Volunteers will receive an official FIFA World Cup 26 uniform, a certificate of participation, exclusive recognition items, and meals and refreshments during shifts. FIFA’s official website provides further details on the application process and host cities.
