Four Indian-origin candidates are seeking historic breakthroughs in the US elections on November 3, 2026, with contests spanning state and federal politics. Their victories could strengthen Indian-American representation in public office across the country.
Republican
Vivek Ramaswamy is contesting the Ohio governor's race against Democrat Amy
Acton. If elected, he would become Ohio's first Indian-American governor and
potentially the first Hindu governor in the United States.
In
Los Angeles, Democrat Nithya Raman is challenging incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. A
victory would make Raman the city's first South Asian mayor. She has focused
her campaign on housing affordability, homelessness and improving public
services.
Meanwhile,
Democrat Pooja Sethi is contesting Texas House District 47 against Republican
Jennifer Mushtaler. If elected, she would become the first Indian-American and
Hindu member of the Texas Legislature. In Florida, Pia Dandiya is seeking
election to the US House of Representatives from the 22nd Congressional
District, focusing on affordability, healthcare, housing and education.
The
four candidates represent different levels of American politics, with Ramaswamy
running as a Republican and the other three as Democrats. Their electoral
fortunes will be closely watched by the Indian-American community, as the
results could mark significant milestones in its political representation in
the United States.
